In a shocking display of left-wing intolerance, University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire professor and English Department Chair José Felipe Alvergue violently assaulted a College Republicans voter information table on Tuesday, flipping it over in a fit of rage. The incident, captured on video, exposes the hypocrisy of liberal academics who preach “tolerance” but resort to thuggery when confronted with conservative activism.
The UWEC College Republicans were peacefully engaging in voter outreach when Alvergue—apparently enraged by their presence—approached them, falsely claiming they were too close to a campus polling site. Despite being informed they were well beyond the 100-foot legal requirement, the professor snarled, “the time for this is over,” before violently overturning the table, scattering voter materials across the sidewalk. The entire confrontation lasted just ten seconds, but it revealed the true face of the left: a movement that despises free speech and democratic engagement when it comes from conservatives.

UWEC College Republicans Chair Tatiana Bobrowicz recounted the incident to WQOW-TV, stating:
“We had a table set up for the election Tuesday when we were approached by a man. He asked why we were so close to the polling place. When I said we were past the 100-foot requirement, he told me ‘the time for this is over’ and flipped the table over.”
The video evidence leaves no doubt—this was an act of intimidation, plain and simple. Yet, if the roles were reversed and a conservative professor had attacked a leftist student group, the liberal media would be screaming about “fascism” and “violent extremism.” Instead, they’ve largely ignored the story, proving once again that their outrage is selective.
University’s Weak Response Exposes Liberal Double Standards
UW-Eau Claire Interim Provost Michael Carney issued a milquetoast statement, calling the attack “deeply concerning” and pledging an investigation—but only after public pressure mounted. His statement read:
“I am deeply concerned that our students’ peaceful effort to share information on campus on election day was disrupted. UW-Eau Claire strongly supports every person’s right to free speech and free expression…”
If the university truly supported free speech, Alvergue would have been fired on the spot. Instead, he was merely placed on administrative leave—a slap on the wrist for what should be a career-ending act of aggression. Meanwhile, police have charged him with disorderly conduct, and he faces a May 7 court date. But don’t expect the liberal establishment to hold one of their own accountable.

The Left’s War on Conservative Students
This incident is just the latest example of leftist academia’s war on conservative voices. Universities claim to be bastions of free thought, yet they allow radical professors to bully, harass, and even assault right-leaning students with impunity. Where is the outcry from CNN, MSNBC, or The New York Times? Silent, as always, when the perpetrators are their ideological allies.
If conservatives acted this way, the media would demand nationwide crackdowns. But when a tenured liberal professor commits an act of political violence, it’s treated as a minor inconvenience rather than the assault on democracy that it is.
