A recent report by Military.com reveals that Space Force Col. Susan Meyers, commander of Pituffik Space Base in Greenland, sent a base-wide email distancing herself from Vice President J.D. Vance’s remarks during his March 28 visit—remarks that aligned with President Donald Trump’s strong stance on Greenland’s strategic importance and Denmark’s mismanagement of the region. The email, sent on March 31, appeared to contradict the administration’s position, raising concerns about military leadership undermining civilian command.
Vance’s Strong Defense of Trump’s Arctic Strategy
During his visit, Vice President Vance delivered a powerful speech emphasizing Greenland’s critical role in U.S. national security, particularly in missile defense and Arctic dominance. He echoed President Trump’s long-standing concerns about Denmark’s failure to adequately secure the region against growing threats from China and Russia.
“President Trump, as he says all the time and as a lot of people recognize, is a president of peace,” Vance stated. “We want to have good relationships with everybody; that includes even, to the extent possible, the Chinese and the Russians. But part of having good relations is showing your strength when you have to.”
Vance also highlighted Denmark’s neglect, stating, “Our message to Denmark is very simple: You have not done a good job by the people of Greenland, you have underinvested in the people of Greenland, and you have underinvested in the security architecture of this incredible, beautiful landmass.”
Col. Meyers’ Divisive Email
Despite Vance’s clear articulation of White House policy, Col. Meyers sent an email to base personnel suggesting that the Vice President’s remarks did not reflect the base’s mission. “I do not presume to understand current politics, but what I do know is the concerns of the U.S. administration discussed by Vice President Vance on Friday are not reflective of Pituffik Space Base,” she wrote.
This statement drew immediate backlash from the Pentagon. Department of Defense Chief of Staff Joe Kasper responded firmly, “Civilian control of the military is a bedrock principle of our armed forces. Actions to undermine the chain of command or to subvert President Trump’s agenda will not be tolerated at the Defense Department.”
Liberal Media’s Hypocrisy Exposed
While the liberal media often lectures about “respecting the chain of command,” their silence on Col. Meyers’ insubordination speaks volumes. Had a military officer under a Democratic president openly contradicted administration policy, the media would have demanded immediate disciplinary action. Yet, when a Trump-appointed official is undermined, they turn a blind eye—further proof of their biased agenda.
President Trump has consistently prioritized Arctic security, recognizing Greenland’s strategic value in countering Russian and Chinese aggression. His administration’s investments in the region have strengthened America’s defensive capabilities, a fact Vance reiterated during his visit.
